Nara Food "Kaki no ha zushi"
G'day mate;)
Today I would like to introduce famous local dish
called "Kaki no ha zushi".
"Kaki" means persimmon,
"no" means 's,
"ha" means leaf,
zushi/sushi means sushi !!
As you can see the photo below,
it is rapped with persimmon leaf and this is to keep inside clean and the leaf kills germs.
If you open it,
you can see slice of fish on the top and
rice seasoned with vinegar shaped as cube.
Normally there are salmon or mackerel on the top.
it is also cured so we can keep it longer.
"Hirasou" is quite famous shop in Nara and they have some branches.
If you visit Nara, you will see many "Hirasou" branches at there!
Or you can buy it at the station (especially on Nara line)as well.
Why don't you have a bite for lunch ??
Adventure!!
